This past week, on 8th October, in the Oakland Park section of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, legendary Jamaican sprinter Yohan Blake unveiled his Butcher’s Barrel restaurant venture in impressive fashion. In addition, there was a recognition ceremony during which Marlon D. Bolton, City Commissioner of nearby Tamarac, Florida, awarded the much-coveted ‘Key to the Region’ to an all-smiles Yohan Blake. Previous recipients of this prestigious award include dancehall artist Spice, TV personality Miss Kitty, and reggae artist Ky-Mani Marley.
Hailing from Jamaica, Yohan Blake is a decorated track and field sprinter. Nicknamed ‘The Beast’, Blake is the second fastest man ever in both the 100m and 200m sprints. His personal best in the 100 metres is an incredible 9.69 seconds, a time he shares with the USA’s Tyson Gay.
Numerous government officials, celebrities, media personalities, and sporting icons attended to witness and applaud Yohan Blake at the restaurant’s opening. Notable attendees included Oliver Mair (Consul General of Jamaica to the Southern USA); Alexandra P. Davis (Vice Mayor of Miramar, Florida); Marlon D. Bolton (Commissioner of Tamarac); Denise D. Grant (Commissioner of Lauderhill, Florida); Mark Douglas (Commissioner of Sunrise, Florida); Lawrence Rowe (Retired West Indies cricketer and one of the greatest batsmen of all time); Safaree Samuels (Jamaican-American rapper, songwriter, reality TV star, businessman, and TV presenter); Gussy Screechybop (Jamaican movie actor, media personality, events promoter, and horse trainer); Whitey Orderz (Road Manager for Safaree Samuels, Zeke Don); and Neil Pearl (events promoter, entrepreneur, and financial consultant).

In October last year, Yohan Blake launched his water brand—Riviere purified water. This speaks volumes about his fiery passion for entrepreneurship and his desire to expand on his already breathtaking list of achievements, both on and off the track. Despite the gloomy weather forecast in Florida due to the approaching Hurricane Milton, the crowds and A-list attendees were undeterred and turned out in force to celebrate Blake in his moment of triumph.
Butcher’s Barrel, located at 3580 NE 12th Ave, Oakland Park, FL 33334, offers a wide variety of delicious dishes, including mouthwatering steaks, burgers, seafood (such as oysters, shrimp, and stone crab claws), ribs, chops (lamb and pork), and chicken sandwiches.
