Canadian-based sensational dancehall singer/rapper, Jubbi Don, born Shemona Prince, wants to be a trendsetter, so she is building an enviable catalogue of trending artistes she has met or with whom she shared the biggest moments of her stage performances. These include Popcaan, Valiant, Chronic Law, and D’ Angel. However, there is one artiste Jubbi Don will not easily forget, Skeng Don.

Born Kevon Douglas, Skeng Don was influenced to do music by listening to lyrical bouts of two dancehall heavyweights, Gully’s Mavado, and Gaza’s Vybz Kartel.

Skeng Don came onto the music scene in 2019 and is known for such songs as ‘Taliban’, ‘Limited Edition’, ‘Burp’, and ‘Gvnman Shift’.

According to Jubbi Don, who has no relationship with Skeng Don, “The first time I heard about Skeng Don is through his hit song, ‘Gvnman Shift’. I was in Canada, driving my cousin home when he began playing that song (‘Gvnman Shift’), which he describes as vibesy.”

“As I began to listen, I too realized the song had a great hook and placed it on all my playlists. I started to sift through the internet to learn more about Skeng Don. Two things that grabbed my attention were his confidence and his determination to be a top player in the music industry.”

Jubbi Don had released some five songs during that time she heard about Skeng Don. “All of my songs were getting good airplay on the radio, so I was getting some form of popularity.”

“The songs include ‘Know Mi Worth’, ‘Sofa’, and ‘Rate Mi’. They were played on diverse radio stations. My video for ‘Know Mi Worth’ had surpassed some 50,000 views in a matter of months.”

“Promoters started contacting me about mid-August, 2023, asking if I would be willing to open for Skeng Don Invasion, a show to be held in Edmonton on August 26, 2023. I was filled with excitement as this was something I had wanted for a long time.”

“I had met Skeng Don prior to the show, he seemed cool and humble. We talked with one idea being the possibility of doing a collaboration.”

“For the show, I wore a black romper which hugged my shapely frame, along with a silver chain-link belt and trending black combat boots.”

“I arrived at the venue at around 10 p.m. The crowd was very welcome. I made a great impression, especially having my dancers on stage.”

Jubbi Don now dreams of performing on the big shows, including Sting, Rebel Salute, and Reggae Sumfest, all held in Jamaica.
