“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created” (Revelation 4:11, KJV). There is something deeply grounding about stepping into Revelation 4. Before we read about turmoil on earth, we are invited into heaven. Before we encounter beasts and judgments, we see a throne. And seated on that throne is God. The elders fall down and declare that He is worthy, not first because He redeems, but because He creates. Everything that exists does so because He willed it. That includes you and me.
The phrase “for thy pleasure” does not mean God created us out of boredom or need. The word speaks of His will, His intention, and His purpose. You and I are not an accident. We are not a cosmic mistake. We were willed into existence. Before we achieved anything, before we failed at anything, before anyone affirmed or rejected us, God chose that we would be.
To be created for His pleasure means our lives are designed to reflect His glory. When we trust Him, we bring Him pleasure. When we forgive, when we walk in integrity, when we choose obedience in quiet moments no one sees, heaven takes notice. Hebrews tells us that without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). That means faith, even trembling faith, delights His heart.
In a world that tells us to build our own identity and chase validation, Revelation 4:11 gently reorients us. Our worth is not self-constructed; it is God-given. Our purpose is not self-invented; it is divinely rooted. The greatest freedom we will ever experience comes not from living for ourselves, but from aligning our lives with the One who made us. Today, pause and remember: there is a throne at the center of reality, and it is occupied. We were created by His will, sustained by His power, and our lives find their deepest meaning when they revolve around Him. What would change in your decisions today if you truly believed you were created for His pleasure?
