The latest offering from The Small Axe People is a 12-track album in CD-format titled Sounds From A Kingston Market. The first thing listeners will notice is the dominance of the bass sound in each an every track. It’s the foundation of the album, which is topped by the ‘flying cymbals’ sound (the ‘tsk, tsk, tsk’ sound on the hi-hat), reggae followers will know as the key part of reggae music’s mid-’70s evolution. The style, based on Philadelphia disco, was made popular by producer Bunny “Striker” Lee. The subtle sounds that are added along the way help to create a nice atmosphere. As a whole, this collection of instrumentals provides a unique and immersive listening experience.
