The night Black-er performed with Biggie Smalls
And it came to pass, that the Holy Black-er, that one with the Righteous Order of Ranks, the one who took an oath not to wattle and daub his face with Bleaching Cream, decided that 1996 was to be his glorious year.
Oh, how Black-er prayed like he had never prayed, for Isaiah the son of Laing to declare the biggest news in dancehall.
And as the sun rose, there on top of Supreme Promotions was Laing, and one called Heavy D, much too large to sit on the same throne.
And, there was silence as the congregation gathered and Laing spoke. “Hear ye dancehall fans, hear ye well! And there was a big roar. Hear ye Sting fans from, near and far. This Boxing Day, I bring to you my loyal Sting fans, a man bigger than Laing, much bigger than Heavy D. He is so big that they call him Notorious BIG. He shall bring glad tidings that will make you cry out for more.”
Oh! What a jubilation on the land as news began to spread that Biggie Smalls would grace the stage of Sting.
As the news spread, there were four loyal disciples called the Get Rich Crew of Black-er, Macho Kid, Little Wicked, and Fresh X slinging suitcases from New Kingston to MoBay.
And, on that night, after Santa Claus came with gifts, a white limousine cruised passed thousands lining the streets to Jamworld dressed in their finest garments,
There was a mad rush to see the world’s greatest rapper, Biggie Smalls. And hours after midnight, Biggie appeared in a wheelchair, surrounded by The Get Rich Crew as fans gathered. And as he rapped, lighters rose and clappers clapped their hands.
Then, Black-er kept the crowd rocking with two of his hit songs, ‘A Gyal Just A Watch You’ and ‘Pickney Naw Hold Man Again’. But the biggest moment was yet to come.
Two large black leather suitcases carried by The Get Rich Crew swung open and the women started to sing, “Mi Brinks, mi Brinks, see mi Brinks deh,” as dollars flew into the crowd and Black-er echoed: “Thy will is done on Jamworld as it was declared by Isaiah the son of Laing.”
Black-er, born Donovan Blackwood, will be performing at Sting on Boxing Day, December 26, 2023.
