Born Garfield Phillips in 1966, the former Wolmer’s High School student hails from Hanna Town in West Kingston, Jamaica. He started his career in the music business in 1989 as a music producer.

During the early 1990s he managed and produced former Queen of the Dancehall Marion “Lady Saw” Hall with scorching hits such as “Find A Good Man”, “Stab Out The Meat”, and “Give Me The Reason”.

Besides Lady Saw, Sampalue also produced songs with Marcia Griffiths, Luciano, Beenie Man, Sanchez, Ghost, and the late Dennis Brown.

In recent years, Sampalue decided to follow his heart’s desire to tread new ground as a recording artiste. The songwriter who wrote hit songs for other artistes is now writing and recording songs that uplift society.

His new releases are “Let Go” featuring Don Diezel, formally known as Pancho, “Ghetto Youths”, “In My Life” and a Dennis Brown cover titled “Make It Easy On Yourself”

His love for music was largely influenced by his father, music producer George “Phil Pratt” Phillips.

Phil Pratt produced many hits during the 1970s including “What About the Half” by Dennis Brown, John Holt’s “Strange Things” and “My Heart Is Gone”, “All I Have Is Love” by Gregory Isaacs, and Pat Kelly’s “Talk About Love”.
