Rvssian’s Dutty Money Riddim
Since its release early December 2023, Rvssian’s Dutty Money Riddim has left an indelible mark on the music scene, commanding attention and admiration from artists and dancehall enthusiasts alike.
In 2009, renowned music producer Tarik “Rvssian” Johnston, known for his innovative approach to music production, created the Go Go Club Riddim. This riddim became a hit, producing chart-topping songs from artists like Demarco, Konshens, Leftside, and Vybz Kartel. However, during this time, there were indications that the era of riddim juggling in dances was coming to an end. Companies like Greensleeves and VP Records had flooded the market with “one riddim” albums as part of their popular series, such as ‘Rhythm Album’ and ‘Riddim Driven’, since the year 2000. However, in 2010, both of these series came to a halt.
More than a decade after the initial release of the Go Go Club Riddim, Rvssian skillfully remixed the riddim and collaborated with five up-and-coming artists: Valiant, Kraff Gad, Malie Donn, Najeeriii, and RajahWild. This electrifying riddim propelled the latter three artists to the top of Richie B’s Jamaica Music Countdown Charts with their songs Muss Shot, Phat Phat, and GoGo. This success inspired other artists to join in, resulting in a wave of new tracks on the trending riddim. Now, the riddim includes songs like Continent, Greatest, Brawd Thickaz, More & More, and Needle Island, performed by Nigy Boy, Sean Paul, Brysco, Bayka, and Govana. Due to its huge popularity more tunes have appeared. However, not all of these cuts are authorized by Rvssian, who’s known for his quality control. The undeniable allure of the Dutty Money Riddim is its ability to captivate listeners and compel them to move to its infectious beat.
The popularity of the Dutty Money Riddim showcases the enduring appeal of dancehall music. Rvssian’s refreshing take on the genre has sparked a trend, with other producers like NotNice and ZJ Liquid also rejuvenating the dancehall scene through their Street Vybz Riddim and 20 Gauge Riddim (also known as 12 Gauge Riddim)
