Reggae Singer McKada Shines Spotlight on Catcalling in New Single “Psst”

Most women have experienced catcalling at least once in their lives. Sometimes it comes in the form of awkward pickup lines, other times through unwelcome public interactions — but rarely are these moments ever pleasant. Unfortunately, when men are rejected in these situations, the responses aren’t always respectful. Rejections are often met with insults or threats.

Catcalling: A Normalised Danger

In Jamaica and many parts of the world, such behaviour has become normalised. But there is growing resistance, as these interactions can escalate into dangerous situations for women. The topic of catcalling continues to spark public discourse, especially as reports of harassment grow.

Enter McKada — a rising reggae artist from Kingston — who is using her music as a platform to challenge this culture head-on. With her latest single, “Psst”, she delivers a powerful message and advocates for more respectful interactions between men and women.

The Message Behind “Psst”

Produced by Raymar “Gsharp” Rochester and released via Tuff Gong and McKada Music, “Psst” captures McKada’s frustration with the way women are approached in public. The song reflects her personal experiences of being harassed while simply going about her day. These unsolicited advances often disrupt her peace, and when she asserts her boundaries, she’s met with insults and aggression. While she sometimes feels compelled to clap back, she ultimately chooses to rise above and promote a more positive path.

McKada’s story is not unique — many women experience the same disrespect in public spaces. Through “Psst”, she calls out this harmful behaviour, using commanding vocals, bold lyrics, and unshakeable energy to express not just her disdain, but the urgent need to end the catcalling culture altogether.

A Visual Wake-Up Call

Released on February 14, “Psst” has been receiving strong support across platforms. The official music video, directed by Garreth Daley, brings the message home by visually portraying what many women endure when their boundaries are ignored. The video has been gaining traction on social media, particularly on Instagram and TikTok.

To support the single, McKada recently launched a media campaign featuring radio and media interviews, engaging social media content, and live performances. One standout moment was her recent livestream performance hosted by UK-based DJ AG Online in Kingston — a clip from the show is now going viral. She is also slated to perform “Psst” at the upcoming Jamaica Woodland Festival at Pearly Beach, St. Ann, this April.
