Rasta Blacspade: ‘Bun 0ut’ Lewd and Violent Lyrics
US-based Rastafarian singjay Rasta Blacspade is concerned about what he refers to as the infiltration of more lewd and violent lyrics on public transport in Jamaica.
“This slackness has increased, fuelled by minibus operators who design the mixtapes of artistes to rotate for the length of the journey.”
According to the ‘Love Over All Things’ artiste “Transport operators claim the music is to satisfy the thirst of students who need to be entertained before classes,” but Blacspade gives this a solid hammering.
“They (the bus operators) are talking crap. Students need to revise before the examination, so as not to be traumatized by explicit lyrics which do not enhance their learning. Additionally, the artistes who sing these songs are no role models for Jamaican youths.”
“I may not be a teacher, but I have enough education to know we do not need this barrage of foul and violent lyrics on public transport, especially with children around.”
With so much criminality in Jamaica glorifying senseless killings while families are mourning over their loved ones is a signal that we are going back to the dark ages.
“The Transport Authority needs more teeth, applying the full length of the law to arrest the problem, even if it means suspending a few licenses to send a strong message across the nation.”
“The Jamaican government needs to show they really care for our children whom they claim will become our future leaders.”
Rasta Blacspade has been a vibrant advocate for issues surrounding education, human rights, and justice.
He has gained much recognition for speaking out on such issues as:
- The importance for students to prepare for CSEC examinations.
- The need for the government to reduce custom duties to ease pressures of hurricane victims.
- More Labour Day projects for communities.
- The importance of Marcus Garvey and World Peace.
He is now working on releasing ‘I Love You’, his first EP with the tracks ‘Hail Jah’, ‘Rasta Live’, ‘Jah Live’, ‘I Love You’, ‘Be Like The Sea’, ‘High Herb’ and ‘Africa Love’.
