Nick Sefakis sets the Vibe with the ‘Way I Feel Riddim’

There’s a lot to like about Nick Sefakis’ Way I Feel Riddim. Across eight tracks, the American roots reggae artist, producer and multi-instrumentalist keeps things firmly grounded in roots while giving the music a modern West Coast feel. Formerly a member of Iya Terra, Sefakis is known for his soulful vocals, strong songwriting and hands-on approach to production, all of which come through clearly on this project.

The riddim starts with a deep, rolling bassline, sharp guitar chops and a spacious dub-inspired mix. Sefakis takes the first vocal spot with Slow & Steady, a relaxed and reflective tune that sets the tone nicely. Tydal Kamau follows with The Looks, bringing a conscious Jamaican perspective to the project.

Inna Vision turns up the roots intensity on Wild N’ Free, while Surfer Girl offers a softer, soulful touch with SoHo. Preech’s Live Up, Live Up and Kanaka Fyah’s Life keep the spiritual and uplifting themes moving forward. Native Leaves adds another reflective moment with That Feelin’, before Sefakis rounds things off with a standalone instrumental.

The Way I Feel Riddim is a good reminder that the one-riddim format still has plenty of life in it.
