Hard to believe it’s been seven years since Nazamba burst onto the scene with that thunderous 12″ single The Hills / The Groove. His self-titled album followed soon after, and then, three years ago, the shock of his passing hit hard. Now Rico O.B.F, his brother from another mother, has brought his voice back to the reggae community with a posthumous second album, A Message From Zion.

Nazamba had already started working on the project in collaboration with Thompson Sound and Dubquake Records, but everything froze when he died. Instead of letting the recordings sit in silence, Rico decided to share them as they were. No polish, no smoothing out the edges. Just Nazamba’s voice, heavy with wisdom and full of that fire he carried everywhere he went. The album carries Nazamba’s storytelling over reimagined classics from the Roots Radics. And when you hear guest spots from Linval Thompson and Barrington Levy, it feels like a proper gathering of elders paying respect to a fallen griot.
