New Release: Mungo’s Hi Fi x Aziza Jaye – That Thing EP
You know when a reggae cover just feels right? That’s exactly what Aziza Jaye and Mungo’s Hi Fi have done with That Thing.
The centrepiece is their reggae take on Lauryn Hill’s 1997 classic tune. But this isn’t a quick do-over. It’s a careful, roots-driven version with space, depth, and that signature Mungo’s low-end pressure. Aziza delivers it with clarity and confidence a proper reggae riddim.
And it doesn’t stop at That Thing. It rolls straight into So It Go, a track that feels like a statement. A proper dancehall cut where Aziza lays it out clear: she’s a “sound system baby.” And when she says the bass speaker is her bed, you can picture the stack, the late nights, the way the low end wraps around you in a session.
Next comes Nah Follow, and the mood shifts. The production leans into hip hop textures, darker and more grounded. And bringing in Solo Banton, the seasoned mic man out of Reading and long-time Mungo’s collaborator, adds that raw edge.
The EP comes to a end with That Dub – Doo Wop Mix, a piano-led one drop reggae groove, smooth and natural, like it was always meant to sit there.
