Last month brought reggae enthusiasts a fresh 5-track EP from Aston “Familyman” Barrett, titled Music Anthem Live. This is the same Familyman who, together with his late brother Carlton, formed one of the greatest riddim sections reggae has ever known. From The Hippy Boys to Lee Perry’s Upsetters and Bob Marley & The Wailers, those two laid down grooves that still echo today. And despite the title, this release doesn’t features recordings of a live show. These are live studio recordings, played straight through, no tricks, no polish overload. The EP serves up three instrumentals, two dub cuts, and one vocal tune featuring the voices of Aston Barrett Jr. and Tyrone Downie.
