New 7″ singles from Yi Mas Gan Records
NEW RELEASE
The independent French label Yi Mas Gan Records has released two new 7″ singles showcasing contrasting styles.
The first single features Jamaican artist Clive Hylton (also known as Color Red), who sadly passed away on June 1, 2024. He offers a heartfelt tribute to love in the song Show Some Love, recorded at the Yaad a Fame studio in Kingston, Jamaica, on a riddim created by Maltese producer Manwel T. The project saw contributions from several renowned musicians, including the late Style Scott on drums, Dubmatix on guitar and organ, Paul Maiden on keyboards, and, of course, Manwel T handling the arrangements. The strength of the piece is highlighted in the instrumental version found on side B.
The second single showcases tracks by Guux and Mr Ites. While these names might not resonate with many reggae fans, both artists play significant roles in the Brazilian sound system landscape. Their collaboration isn’t new as it’s common for one to provide vocals over the riddim of the other. Guux offers the straight vocal version of Dem Divide Us To Conquer, whereas Mr Ites lends his voice to the dubbed version. The riddim is rapid, crisp, and very dark, echoing an industrial dub stepper vibe similar to those produced by Zongo Sound.
