Kenyon’s love for Positive Music
Kenyon Don, record producer of Richcode M.M.C., stunned by the wealth of talent possessed by four independent artistes, has decided to make them international stars.
He has produced and released “Cah Be Loyal” on his owned Richcode Music imprint. This is cemented by a riveting music video.
Kenyon, given name Kenyon Dave Gerrow, goes by the artiste name Dave which can be found on his singles. The four artistes who go by the stage names Geppi Don, Lyan Turbo, Hot Vybes, and Jenuin are setting their sights on the international market to spread their wings.
It is Kenyon’s passion for music and his mission to transform the lives of inner-city youths, who started the project.
He recalls: “I select innercity youths to work with because I am also from the innercity with pronounced features of poverty.”
“I grew up in multiple communities in Jamaica, including Waltham Park, Maxfield Park, Kintyre, and Gregory Park characterized by disunity and sparks of violence. My mother, Hilory Francis didn’t have a house. hence we kept moving and this affected not only the little furniture which was ruined, but my education.”
“I learned that youths wanted to express themselves as they sit on the roadside trying to compose lyrics which one day would take them out of poverty and violence.”
Kenyon, a Norman Manley High school graduate, knew from schooldays one of his cousins, Geppi Don. a member of the group.
“We grew up in a district called Jeffery Town, St. Mary. Getti Don would find some cool, quiet spot to write and sing his lyrics. And he would keep asking me, how it sounded. I knew very well he was hungry for music as we sat together in 2008.”
Nine years later (2017), Kenyon met Lyan Turbo as he went surfing on Facebook.
“This was a blessing. Honestly, it was not about lyrics, but his vocals. He had what I would describe as the most compelling sound, like a well-tuned sound system which strikes the first note and its presence becomes irresistible.”
Kenyon met Hot Vybes in 2021 through Kryme Boss Records.
“I connected with him and was impressed with one of his songs titled “Flame.”
“I was struck by Jenuin’s “Angels Giving Birth,” a song he did for his mother.”
The young exuberant producer quickly laid ‘Ultimate Riddim’, then found “Cah Be Loyal,” the title of the track on which the four would pitch their talents.
“I gave Lyan Turbo the chorus and was surprised when he gave it a different spin, a few lines being:
Anything weh waste, cah be loyal
Waste people pretend all the time
And a dats why man affi burn the fire.
‘Cause Rich Code nah beg nuh friend…”
“In no time did the others have their part ready. Getti Don and Hot Vybes recorded at Tuff Gong International with Jenuin sounding off at Mixing Lab.
The song, which was released on February 11, 2024, is available on all international platforms and is accompanied by an official music video.
