Johnny Osbourne revisits ‘We Need Love’
NEW RELEASE
After spending an extended period in Canada, Johnny Osbourne returned to Jamaica and soon joined forces with the legendary Coxsone Dodd for his recording debut as a solo artist at the iconic Studio One. Among the riddims presented to him, Osbourne selected the one originally laid by Jackie Mittoo and the Sound Dimension for Otis Gayle’s I’ll Be Around. Across that classic riddim, he recorded a brand new track titled We Need Love, which featured on his critically acclaimed 1979 album Truth & Rights.
Decades later, that timeless gem finds fresh energy through a new collaboration between the Johnny Osbourne, Tarrus Riley, and renowned saxophonist Dean Frazer. This updated rendition of We Need Love, produced by the esteemed Frenchie of Maximum Sound, serves as the first preview from Johnny Osbourne’s upcoming album Universal Love Showcase, set for release via VP Records on August 29, 2025.
