Two Jamaican students have made the country proud by winning prestigious Diplomacy Awards at The World International Model United Nations (WIMUN) Conference in New York. Jaylen Allen and Devon Barnes, both students from Jamaica College, were honored for their outstanding diplomatic skills, standing out among participants from around the world. Several other Jamaican students also received recognition, highlighting the nation’s strong presence at this global event.

The WIMUN Conference 2025, held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City, brought together students from various countries to engage in high-level debates, negotiations, and real-world diplomatic simulations. This year’s conference marked the largest gathering in its history, emphasizing the importance of youth participation in global affairs.
Jamaica’s delegation included 149 students from 13 schools, showcasing the nation’s commitment to international engagement. In celebration of their achievements, Jamaica’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Brian Wallace, hosted a special luncheon for the delegation. Students enjoyed traditional Jamaican cuisine while reflecting on their experiences at the conference.

The WIMUN conference is known for its realistic simulation of the United Nations, organized by the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA). It provides students with a unique opportunity to learn how the UN operates, interact with experts, and develop essential skills in diplomacy, negotiation, and teamwork. The 2025 event took place at the InterContinental New York Times Square and The Westin New York at Times Square, two prestigious venues that have hosted world leaders and dignitaries.
As WIMUN 2025 concluded, students left inspired to continue their journey in international relations and global advocacy. Their participation highlighted the power of young voices in shaping the future of diplomacy and governance in the world.
