Dr. André Dick, a highly accomplished Jamaican born surgeon, has been recognized with the 2024 Puget Sound Business Journal (PSBJ) Health Care Leadership Surgeon of the Year Award. Dr. Dick, who serves as Senior Vice President and Surgeon-in-Chief at Seattle Children’s Hospital and a Professor of Surgery at the University of Washington Medical Center, was honored at the 6th Annual Health Care Leadership Awards event on December 5, 2024.
This prestigious award highlights Dr. Dick’s extraordinary contributions to pediatric surgery and transplantation, as well as his commitment to health care equity. As the Surgical Director of the Pediatric Kidney Transplant Program, Dr. Dick’s leadership has shaped innovations in pediatric surgical care.

Born and raised in Jamaica, Dr. Dick attended Wolmer’s High School for Boys before pursuing medical studies at the State University of New York. He later completed his residency at Pennsylvania State University’s Hershey Medical Center and a fellowship in abdominal transplant surgery at the University of Washington Medical Center. In addition to his surgical expertise, Dr. Dick earned a Master’s in Public Health from Harvard University, further enriching his approach to addressing health care disparities.
Since joining Seattle Children’s in 2008, Dr. Dick has been instrumental in advancing both clinical care and surgical education. Beyond his clinical and academic responsibilities, he is a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion in health care. As the co-leader of Seattle Children’s Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Education and Leadership Committee, Dr. Dick champions initiatives that foster anti-racism education and equitable care.
Dr. Dick’s achievements extend beyond the operating room. His recognition as Surgeon of the Year underscores his commitment to addressing social determinants of health and fostering diversity within the medical profession.
