One such track, ‘Goose Pimples’ is the title of his soon-to-be-released 12-track album. And, guess what, Ian hopes to reap a Grammy award in the future.
The Jamaican-born US-based, given name Ian Heywood, is not only a reggae artiste, he is also a record producer with his label Audio Sweetness Production.
This brand has been around since 2010 and comprises two albums, ‘Lovers Rock Mood’ and ‘Slow and Steady’, with each counting 13 solid tracks.
Born in the community of Mountain View, Kingston 3, Ian Sweetness’ favourite artistes include Dennis Brown, Frankie Paul, and Beres Hammond. However, Motown artistes Teddy Pendergrass and others have inspired him to move on from Soul to Reggae music. He also respects Bob Marley for his message songs.
Ian Sweetness, since leaving Jamaica, has helped to place reggae on the map touring the UK’s London, Manchester, and Birmingham states to name a few.
His most memorable song, ‘Little Green Apples’, which he has covered, is still fresh in his mind.
‘Little Green Apples’ written by Bobby Russell became a hit for three different artistes in 1968. It was originally written for and released by American recording artistes Patti Page and O.C. Smith that year.
Smith’s version became a number 2 hit on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard Hot Rhythm and Blues Singles chart and a number 6 hit on the Billboard Country chart.
Page’s version became her last Hot 100 entry. The song earned Russell a Grammy Award for Song of The Year and Best Country Song.
