Do you love live reggae music? Would you enjoy a fun and unique cultural festival with interactive workshops engaging festival-goers in yoga, healthy nutritional practices, meditation, soccer, and music-making—and would you like all of this for free?

Great news! I have just the event for you: The “Positive Music Festival” on March 9. Organized and sponsored by the Mojave Junior/Senior High School in Mojave, California—in particular the Mojave Journalism News Team and their teacher, Empress Truth Akins—this special, feel-good, family-friendly event will run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Mojave Junior/Senior High School gymnasium.

The festival’s headliner, the legendary Jamaican sound engineer and dub pioneer, Scientist, also known as Hopeton Brown, will not only be performing with talented and versatile singer Atara, he’ll be giving informative demonstrations and interacting with festival attendees, too.

Other artists scheduled to perform include Empress Akua (whose first single “It’s Cold Out There” was released in July 2017 on the Issachar Muzik label); Miss Mac Music by Jaime Hinckson with special guest Kailash (who was nominated Best New Young Artist at the International Reggae and World Music Awards); Jah Mark & The Soul Shakers; SGV Vibes (also known as San Gabriel Valley Vibes Music); Irie Nature; Collectivo Ras; the aforementioned Empress Truth Akins; Obek; Charmer; and DJ Lady Eyela.

There will also be a special poetry reading by actress and poet Gia Scott-Heron (daughter of the famous spoken-word performer, Gil Scott-Heron).
