Emerging déejay Kryme Rate, whilst condemning the heartless murder of Jamaican sports journalist Job Nelson, is recommending more CCTV surveillance cameras at stoplights, increased community policing, and a more effective campaign to educate citizens on how they can benefit from a crime-free nation.

“It is simply shocking when a journalist who, for so many years, has been informing the nation, can be targeted and murdered in such a manner.”

Nelson was driving along Spanish Town Road on Tuesday night May 21, 2024. He had stopped at a stoplight in the vicinity of St. Andrew Technical High School when he was shot by gunmen.

He tried driving himself to hospital, crashed into a utility pole, and was pronounced dead while undergoing treatment.

So far in 2024, some 26 journalists and media workers have been killed, including Jamaican Job Nelson.

At least 20 of those killed were in Palestine, while two were killed in Columbia, one each in Pakistan, Sudan, and Myanmar, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.

2022 was one of the deadliest years on record for journalists around the globe with a nearly fifty percent increase in killings for the previous years.

According to Kryme Rate, “We have lost respect for life and it is so sad that we are becoming more rebellious to each other.”

“There has been a lot of talk about protecting lives and property but the truth is that we need to do three things at this time.

“Increase CCTV cameras at stoplights along thoroughfares deemed to be unsafe at night.”

“We need better policing in our communities, one in which citizens see the police as one they can trust to give information”

“Thirdly, we need to have regular sessions with students about the importance of policing and their role in helping to protect themselves and others when they become adults.”

Kryme Rate, born Andre Robinson, is a member of the Fully Bright school tour team who promotes ‘Too Much Killing’, a song featured on the ‘Just for Peace International’ album.

The 12-track set features two Grammy winners, Kabaka Pyramid and Vision Alexander, along with Valiant, Chi Ching Ching, and Lahjihkal.
