From Belgium to Jamaica’s heartbeat, Daddy Cookiz has been tuned into reggae since he was a kid. His first big step came with L’école Des Sound Systems (The School of Sound Systems), a mixtape that marked the start of a real love affair with the culture. That path led him to join Atomic Spliff, a reggae outfit steeped in rub-a-dub, ragamuffin and early dancehall spirit. Their first album, Ras Attack (2015), carried that raw, joyful energy that hooked fans. A decade later, Cookiz is still full of vibes. His latest drop, Wavy, is a link-up with French musician Slim Levy. The tune, and its video, ride a cool groove that skaters will feel and reggae lovers will recognize right away. Cookiz sounds like a man who never left the sound system school—just graduated with flying colors.
