“Building Back Jamaica Strong” Live Broadcast Series Hosted by Marlon Hill Connects the Diaspora to Official Hurricane Melissa Relief Efforts

Jamaicans.com has launched a special broadcast series titled “Building Back Jamaica Strong: Diaspora in Action” — an initiative that connects Jamaicans across the globe with verified information on relief and recovery efforts following Hurricane Melissa.

The first in the series, “Building Back Jamaica Strong: Diaspora in Action – USA & Canada,” aired on Tuesday, November 4, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. EST, and was hosted by Marlon Hill, Esq. The program brought together key representatives from Jamaica’s diplomatic missions and diaspora leadership in North America to discuss how assistance is being organized and how Jamaicans abroad can support the rebuilding process.

Uniting Voices Across the Diaspora

For the U.S. and Canada broadcast, confirmed participants included Consul General Oliver Mair, Peter Gracey (Global Jamaica Diaspora Council representative Southern USA), Michelle Tulloch (Global Jamaica Diaspora Council representative Northeast USA), Chris Benjamin (New York Consulate Office), and Shauna Chin (Global Jamaica Diaspora Council representative West/Mid-West USA).

From Canada, the lineup featured Consul General Kurt Davis, High Commissioner Marsha Coore Lobban, Rhona Dunwell (Global Jamaica Diaspora Council representative Canada), and Lisa Rutty (Global Jamaica Diaspora Council representative Canada).

Each participant shared details about government-led and community-based recovery efforts, highlighted legitimate donation channels, and outlined safe ways for the diaspora to contribute to Jamaica’s rebuilding.

Expanding to the United Kingdom

The next installment in the series, “Building Back Jamaica Strong: Diaspora in Action – United Kingdom (UK),” takes place on Thursday, November 6, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. GMT (1:00 p.m. EST).

This discussion will be hosted by Jamaicans.com Chief Editor, Kadia Francis, and will feature High Commissioner Alexander Williams and Global Jamaica Diaspora Council representative UK, Nathaniel Peat. Together, they will explore ongoing initiatives in the UK to support Jamaica’s post-hurricane recovery and strengthen the connection between Jamaicans at home and abroad.

Addressing the Challenge of Misinformation

In a statement about the initiative, Xavier Murphy, founder of Jamaicans.com, spoke about the critical need for accurate and trustworthy communication during national emergencies:

“We are deeply concerned about the growing spread of AI-generated content and false information surrounding relief efforts — including scam websites, fake donation drives, and misleading narratives about who is giving aid and how it is being distributed locally,” Murphy said. “This kind of misinformation breeds mistrust and slows down Jamaica’s recovery. Here at Jamaicans.com, we’re doing our part to make sure you receive accurate, up-to-date information, and to connect you with credible relief and volunteer opportunities.”

Murphy added that Jamaicans.com is opening its platform to government agencies, NGOs, grassroots organizations, and individuals who want to reach the diaspora and share legitimate calls to action.

“We all have a role to play in rebuilding our beloved homeland. By sharing truth and supporting legitimate efforts, we can ensure that help reaches those who need it most — quickly, safely, and effectively,” he said.

Collaboration and Transparency

Through the “Building Back Jamaica Strong” broadcast series, Jamaicans.com aims to create an open, collaborative space where the global Jamaican community can stay informed, connected, and engaged in verified efforts to support the island’s recovery.

The platform also serves as a bridge — linking official government updates, credible charity drives, and community action across regions, while spotlighting the ongoing contributions of diaspora leaders and volunteers.
