Anthony Cruz takes ‘Marcus Garvey’ to the World
Anthony Cruz, well-known for ‘Half-Way-Tree’, ‘Under The Covers’ to ‘Righteousness’, ‘Injustice’ and ‘Africa’, is hoping to take ‘Marcus Garvey’, a dynamic tribute to the world, in just the same way Garvey took his teachings to the universe.
Cruz, in just about three minutes, captures the essence of Garvey and his vision for blacks to rise from their adversities through unity, education, determination, and self-reliance.
Dub Chemist, the veteran producer of ‘Marcus Garvey’, describes the song as “huge and colossal.”
“Cruz, a hit-maker and one of the best singers, has invented a song which will outlast, not just our generation, but generations to come. It is compact, family-friendly and entertaining.”
“This is hot bread with several disc jockeys ready to blast it out to the public. In fact, the number one station in Jamaica is leading the charge.”
As for Cruz, who is not afraid to go on record, “This song, ‘Marcus Garvey’, is no ordinary song. It is a lesson that is taught in less than five minutes. One which has all the seasoning to attract universal support.”
Cruz further explains that the song was written well over three years ago. “This was during the pandemic when entertainment was low-key. The riddim called ‘Baltimore’, a production of Sly, Robbie and the Taxi Crew, grabbed my attention.”
“I wrote the song as a Tribute to Marcus Garvey with no real timeline, and as it works out now
the timing is perfect.”
“As a youth growing up we heard about Garvey but years of research has shown the depth of his work and worth.”
Anthony Cruz’s latest project is “I See Jah Light”, a combination with Brigadier Jerry. This is an original of the Heptones.
