Protect Yuh Life: Two great songs of the century
Each year an estimated 4 million new songs are produced which breaks down to about 11,000 songs per day. Many of these songs have no real message that resonates well with listeners and this has nothing to do with popularity.
People are hooked to songs because of varying reasons, one of which is their true-to-life stories.
Saving lives is important as this is part of creation.
Surfing through YouTube, I bounced upon two important songs titled “Protect Yuh Life.” One is a collaboration of CJ Dan and Vers, and the other by Lappaleng.
CJ Dan, born Carlton Campbell, along with three other men were gunned down on July 2, 2022, at Damien Bay, Maracus, Trinidad.
Lappaleng, given name Karl Wallace, is a Jamaican-born living in the UK. He is outraged that the law does not give more people access to legal firearms so they can protect themselves.
In 2022, the homicide rate in Trinidad and Tobago stood at around 39.4 homicide victims in 100,000 population. Trinidad and Tobago is a twin island nation in the eastern Caribbean about 7 miles off the northeast coast of Venezuela.
When Jamaica gained independence in 1962 the murder rate was 3.9 per 100,000 inhabitants, one of the lowest in the world.
In 2022, Jamaica had 1,508 murders for a murder rate of 53.34 per 100,000 people, the highest murder rate in the world.
Obtaining a gun license in Trinidad is similar to that in Jamaica. The initial stage includes completing an application form. Two passport-size photos. Signed by a JP. Proof of age. Fingerprint. Proof of trainer certificate and receipt, and meeting firearm safety rules.
The two “Protect Yuh Life” songs have a number of similarities. It would be interesting to hear your views. Please like, share, and comment. “Protect Yuh Life” is on all digital platforms. Go and stream it and check out Lappaleng’s YouTube channel.
Have a wonderful day and remember to Protect Yuh life and others, if you can.
