Spanish Town High impresses
Spanish Town High School in the heart of the old capital came in for much commendations, including first-class discipline, as The Fully Bright team visited one of the toughest schools in St. Catherine, last Tuesday, February 27, 2024.
But at the end of a nearly one-hour presentation, guest artistes from Jamaica and abroad showered praises on the institution.
Canadian recording singer and former track star Jonelle could not hold back her feelings.
“It’s unbelievable, This is a far cry from what I have been hearing about this community (Spanish Town). It seems these students have a crop of great teachers who have the capacity to instill discipline along with education. I could easily relate to them and they were so friendly.”
Jonelle, one of several artistes in the Kyoni Recordz camp, delivered ‘Mood’, a song that had students cheering her. She then exited the stage with some fine words of encouragement. ” Don’t ever believe where you now stand is your destiny, strive for greatness. I have fallen on hard times, but I got up and here I am now somewhere I can share my successes.”
Wassdemm, a member of the Fully Bright Dancers, felt the school stood out among some of the best he had visited in season one. “I need to share the joy I felt and the energy the students displayed during our presentation.”
The day’s activities started with Dr. Garth McDonald’s highly favoured motivational speech inspiring students to become positive role models in society. Deejays So Suh Bonez and Kryme Rate both delivered commendable songs.
Kryme Rate, winner of multiple karaoke Talent contests delivered ‘Too Much Killing’, a message of peace, in fine style, while So Suh Bonez, another Kyoni Recordz staple, was electrifying during his ‘Living It Up’ performance.
The school participated with two poetry items and a dance challenge which had students and teachers cheering for their favourites.
Some twenty students were awarded ‘Fully Bright’ certificates, including Jahmar Downer, Triston Gayle, Joshua Thomas, and Dijon Evelyn.
Spanish Town High, a co-ed institution accommodates some 1800 students and 106 teachers. The leadership is shared by principal Damion Lawrence, vice-principals Leopold Porter, Keisha Walker, and Verica Thompson Elvin (acting). The school’s student population is 1,343.
