Meet dynamic record producer Kyoni
He has never been to a Fine Arts institution, but one thing for sure is that he has enormous talent and passion to do whatever he pursues. This is the drive and determination that makes Adrian Bloomfield, principal of Kyoni Recordz, stand out among his peers.
The Jamaican-born Canadian-based record producer, who went to live in Canada at age 12, enjoys what he loves best. He wants to make a big impact in the music industry, creating songs that he describes as impacting, positive, and irresistible.
“When I came into the music business, some four years ago, I was simply the wanna-be-like producer exploring music which promotes sex, fast cars, nuff gall in a bundle. And nothing else matters, so long as these are achieved.”
“I looked deeply into how these have had an impact in society, especially our young generation, and vowed to reverse this mentality.”
“I also grew up in the church with both parents and grandparents being ardent churchgoers. Hence I have some degree of Christian principles, even though I had lived in the gritty Waltham Park community in Kingston.”
“My trek to Canada opened several musical doors. Firstly, I became not only the drummer in my church band but also the engineer. My job was learning about all the instruments involved in making a live rhythm, voicing, harmonising, mixing, and mastering.”
“Over time, I could easily identify human and technical flaws, and became a true ambassador for my church, traveling and performing in some ten states.”
This exposure and experience have led Bloomfield to start his owned Kyoni Recordz label. This came after producing dubplates for Stunning Kid, a virtually unknown but very talented Jamaican artiste.
“The whole story is so amazing. I met Stunning in a WhatsApp group. He had this song which was a demo, but I saw the potential and had him doing a dubplate which was mixed and mastered. The song titled ‘Junk Food’ was released and featured Sound Chat Radio, New York.”
“It was an instant success in terms of the number of streams, in addition to making money. The financial success of this project influenced my expanding what I had been nourishing into a business venture, which included having my music on a big platform.”
Since then Kyoni has produced some 30 songs including Luciano’s ‘Bright and Early In The Morning’ and Althea Hewitt’s ‘Concrete Jungle’, with another 30 songs to be mixed and mastered to be released.
His latest project titled ‘Come to Me’ is by Canadian sensation singer and producer Jonelle, to be released on December 22, 2023.
This is getting some good rotation on mainstream radio and is included on playlists of Irie FM (Jamaica) CHUO 89.1 fm (Ottawa), and CKUT 90.3 fm (Montreal).
In the future, Kyoni, the name of his last son, is expected to create hits with international stars.
“I named my record production Kyoni because I wanted to leave a rich legacy that will last forever.”
