Bob Andy Tribute

The birthday eve tribute to Bob Andy staged in Kingston on October 27th by his son Godfrey “Bobby” Anderson, was later last week judged “a huge success” by the Jamaica Gleaner.

Against the magical backdrop of the weekly Night Market—held at 36 Trafalgar Road in New Kingston—DJ Welton Irie kept the vibes flowing with Bob’s music, and the audience enjoyed a beautiful instrumental introduction by young violinist Jheanelle Yinga Owens.

Well-received performances by Empress Chai, newest member of the Heptones Deh Deh Black, and roots icon Fred Locks followed, paying homage to a legendary catalog that helped shape the foundation of Jamaican popular music.

Bob’s nephew Singer J closed the show with a string of some of the best-loved classics from the pen of Jamaica’s great songwriter, born Keith Anderson, whose timeless compositions such as Too Experienced, Feeling Soul, and My Time remain pillars of reggae history.
