Mystic Marley explores Love in New Single
Love isn’t always straightforward. Sometimes it’s the very thing that brings people together that also makes relationships complicated. That’s the subject Mystic Marley explores in her latest single, In Love, a track that blends contemporary R&B, pop and hip-hop with the Jamaican influences that run through her musical background.
The daughter of Stephen Marley and granddaughter of Bob Marley, Mystic has a rich musical heritage to draw from. But she’s also determined to develop her own identity, experimenting with different sounds and writing about subjects that connect with her personal experiences.
“I’ve chosen to put out ‘In Love’ now because it’s a song that I am genuinely passionate about,” Mystic explained. “I felt connected to it and just fell in love with it when it was completed, and the process was a vibe, as always.”
The song looks at the emotional pull between two people, particularly the feelings that keep them coming back to each other even when things aren’t going smoothly. It’s a subject that allows Mystic to show a more vulnerable side of her songwriting.
And musically, she’s not afraid to explore. Although her roots are firmly connected to reggae and dancehall, she draws inspiration from several genres and enjoys working with different musicians.
“I’ve been working on my sound and experimenting with different vibes and creating with different people, including Yo Christon as producer and my co-writer Ayaana Nash, so I think it’s a good place to pick up,” she said.
Music has been part of Mystic’s life from an early age. Raised between Miami and Los Angeles, she spent much of her childhood around her father’s music, joining Stephen Marley on tour and visiting the studio while he recorded. Those experiences gave her an early introduction to the business, but she believes personal growth and experimentation are essential to finding your own voice.
“I would enjoy it if people were open to things not always looking and being the same,” she said. “I’m a very open person. I like to learn and I like to grow, and I do that through experience, through trial and through error.”
Mystic has already paid tribute to her grandfather’s catalogue with a soulful interpretation of Misty Morning, featured on the Grammy-winning compilation Bob Marley: One Love – Music Inspired by the Film, executive-produced by Stephen Marley. She has also shared the stage with her father as an opening act on tour and performed at Kaya Fest.
With In Love, Mystic invites listeners into a more personal side of her artistry, offering a candid exploration of the emotions that make relationships both complicated and compelling.
“I hope everyone enjoys the music and everyone streams,” she said.
