Hopeton Lindo finds strength in reflection on ‘A Miracle’

Hopeton Lindo grew up in Kencot, Kingston, and began his recording career in 1979 with Black History, recorded for the late Mikey Dread. Over the years, he worked with some of Jamaica’s most respected labels and producers, including Music Works, King Tubby’s, King Jammys, Two Friends, Cell Block, Heavy Beat and others.

In 1987, Lindo produced and recorded Territory, the song that became his first major hit. The track has stood the test of time and remains a favourite in dancehall clashes, where its powerful combination of riddim and lyrics still hits with plenty of force.

But Lindo’s influence goes far beyond his own recordings. During his years at Music Works Studio in the 1980s, he developed a reputation as one of reggae’s finest songwriters. That earned him the nickname “The Pen”, a fitting name considering the number of major songs that carry his writing or co-writing credits.

These include Telephone Love by J.C Lodge, Shabba Ranks’ Mr.Loverman, Red Rose For Gregory by Gregory Isaacs, Aswad’s Confidential, First Impression by Dennis Brown, Can You by Brian & Tony Gold, Maxi Priest’s Temptress, Wanna Be Loved by Buju Banton, Deborahe Glasgow ‘s Don’t Test Me plus many more songs..

But this time, the veteran artist steps away from the party anthems and romantic classics to tell a more intimate story. On A Miracle, Lindo turns inward, sharing songs shaped by personal reflection, resilience and gratitude. The EP feels like an honest testimony from an artist who understands that music can offer comfort when life gets tough. Its message is simple but powerful: even in difficult times, there’s always room for faith, hope and gratitude.

“This project is my most personal; it’s a testimony giving God thanks for a miracle,” says Hopeton Lindo. “I did this EP to help strengthen anyone who may be going through a difficult time. It can be emotional writing and singing these songs, and I hope people listening will find comfort in these uplifting tracks. God is the greatest, never give up; just pray and believe miracles come through.”
