From June 14–18, 2026, Jamaicans from around the world will gather in Montego Bay for the 11th Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference. Long regarded as the premier gathering of Jamaicans living overseas, this year’s conference comes at a particularly significant time as Jamaica continues its recovery and rebuilding efforts following the devastation of Category 5 Hurricane Melissa, while strengthening ties with its global diaspora, friends of Jamaica, and key international partners committed to the nation’s development.
If you’re still deciding whether to attend, here are five reasons why this year’s conference may be worth the trip.
1. Connect Directly with Decision-Makers
One of the biggest advantages of attending the Diaspora Conference is access.
Over several days, attendees will have opportunities to engage directly with government officials, public agencies, business leaders, community organisations and fellow diaspora members from around the world. Whether you’re seeking information, looking to start a project, or simply trying to navigate a process in Jamaica, the conference brings many of the key people and organisations together in one place.
As Community Relations Officer Christopher Benjamin noted during the Diaspora Exchange programme, many attendees have been able to resolve issues and make important connections that would have taken months to accomplish from overseas.

2. Turn Ideas Into Opportunities
The conference is designed for more than conversation. It is also a space where investment, entrepreneurship and development opportunities can take shape.
Sessions will focus on trade, investment, entrepreneurship, housing, finance and economic development. Attendees will be able to connect with representatives from organisations such as the Jamaica Stock Exchange, financial institutions, government agencies and private sector partners.
For Jamaicans interested in returning home, investing, starting a business or expanding existing ventures, the conference offers a unique opportunity to gather information and build relationships.

3. Find Practical Solutions to Real Problems
Many members of the diaspora maintain property, businesses and family responsibilities in Jamaica. The conference provides access to agencies and organisations that can help address these concerns.
Benjamin highlighted one example: many Jamaicans abroad own unused land in Jamaica but are unaware of programmes such as the Ministry of Agriculture’s Land Bank, which can connect landowners with farmers interested in leasing and cultivating the property.
Whether your concerns involve land, housing, documentation, business registration or investment opportunities, the conference creates a space to get answers directly from the source.

4. Give Back Through Service and Empowerment
This year’s conference introduces a new Diaspora Day of Empowerment and expands its Diaspora Day of Service activities.
Participants will have opportunities to support communities affected by Hurricane Melissa, assist with community projects, and contribute directly to local economic recovery efforts.
From supporting small vendors at the Harbour Street Craft Market to participating in volunteer projects across western Jamaica, attendees will have a chance to make a tangible impact while reconnecting with their homeland.

5. Build a Global Jamaican Network
The Jamaica Diaspora extends far beyond any one city or country. The conference brings together Jamaicans from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Caribbean and other parts of the world.
Consul General Dr. Oliver Mair described the conference as an opportunity to connect with the “movers and shakers” who are making a difference both in Jamaica and abroad. These connections often lead to partnerships, mentorship opportunities, business ventures and community initiatives that continue long after the conference ends.
For young professionals, entrepreneurs, community leaders and those simply looking to expand their network, there may be no better gathering of Jamaicans from around the world.

More Than a Conference
The Jamaica Diaspora Conference is ultimately about connection, collaboration and collective action. It is a chance for Jamaicans abroad to contribute ideas, share expertise, explore opportunities and help shape Jamaica’s future.
Whether you’re attending for the first time or returning once again, the 11th Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference offers an opportunity to be part of a global conversation about Jamaica’s growth, resilience and development.

Jamaicans.com will be on the ground in Montego Bay providing live coverage throughout the conference, including interviews, panel highlights, community stories, social media updates and behind-the-scenes content. However, while we’ll do our best to bring the experience to our audience around the world, nothing replaces being in the room.
The networking opportunities, face-to-face conversations, access to decision-makers and chance encounters that often lead to new partnerships are difficult to replicate online. If you can attend, we strongly encourage you to be there in person.
