mRtinez - Life Change

Reggae newcomer mRtinez steps in with his debut album Life Change, released through DubShot Records.

This one was recorded at Tuff Gong Studio in Kingston, and you know the 10-track album carries that unmistakable roots energy. That place isn’t just a studio, it’s where so much reggae history lives. And when you link that with Squidly Cole on drums and production (yeah, the same man who’s worked closely with Stephen Marley), you already know the foundation is solid. mRtinez also co-produced the project, so his voice isn’t just in the lyrics, it’s in the whole sound.

Life Change didn’t come together overnight. It’s built on years of growth, both personal and musical. The themes move through growth, resilience, and self-realization, and they’re carried by real reggae elements: live instruments, heavy ridims, and songs that are message-driven.

“There’s a lineage to this music,” mRtinez explains. “Recording at Tuff Gong, working with musicians who live and breathe this sound, it pushes you to be honest. This album is about that honesty. It’s about change, in every sense.”

Respect for reggae’s roots is all over Life Change, but it doesn’t lean on nostalgia. Instead, it shows how the next generation can carry the torch properly, by staying true and still pushing forward.

With Life Change, mRtinez comes through with purpose. This isn’t just about making songs. It’s about carrying the message that’s always been at the heart of reggae.
