The 45 Years Of Ariwa LP isn’t just another compilation, it feels like sitting down with a stack of vinyl plates and tracing a whole legacy. You can think of it as a guided tour through one of the UK’s most important independent reggae labels.

This release pulls together ten tracks that really show how the label has moved through time. You hear deep roots, spaced-out dub, and everything in between. And it never feels random. It’s carefully chosen, like someone walking you through the Ariwa story step by step.

It opens with Johnny Clarke’s awesome Mount Zion, which sets a spiritual tone straight away. Then we move into a strong run of female voices, something Ariwa has always done right. Ranking Ann sets the tone with Authentic Leadership, followed by Kofi’s Black Pride, which hits deep with its roots in Black British identity. And then Aisha brings that smooth, soulful energy on Can You Feel It. It’s a section on Side A that really reminds you how important women have been to the Ariwa sound.

Side B shifts the mood. Jah Shaka locks you into a strong conscious vibe with Lion Youth, and then Lee Perry comes through with that unpredictable energy on the playful Hippy John. From there, Tony Benjamin’s Africa Is Zion, Aquizim’s Step Right In, and Daughter Of Israel by Alan Kingpin round things out nicely, keeping that roots message consistent.

In the end, this one works however you approach it. If you’re just discovering Ariwa, it gives you a clear entry point. And if you’ve been following the label for years, it feels like catching up with an old friend. Familiar, but still fresh where it counts.
