Riddim Dee-Lite: Montego Bae

Not every riddim blows up overnight. Some take a little while before it reaches people around the world. That’s the case with the Montego Bae Riddim, a mid-2025 release from Unit X Productions. It’s the very first riddim project coming from this independent Jamaican label.

First up is Devin Di Dakta, the Grammy-nominated artist who’s known for blending smooth singing with sharp deejay delivery. His track Rub A Dub kicks things off with real energy and pulls you straight into the groove. Then comes Metazen by Gail, an emerging singer and songwriter with a soulful reggae touch. Her voice sits comfortably on the riddim and keeps the mellow mood flowing. Next in line is Neeka Raine with Joy In My Life. She’s another young Jamaican talent, and her bright, uplifting vocals bring a fresh lift to the riddim. Finally, reggae veteran Chico closes things out with Butterflies. His delivery leans into smooth lovers-rock territory, and it works beautifully with the warm feel of the backdrop.

Four artists, one steady groove, and a strong debut from Unit X Productions. The Montego Bae Riddim might’ve taken a little time to reach some ears, but once you play it, it’s easy to see why it deserves the attention.
