Rochelle Bradshaw - Island Girl (The Alt Cuts)

NEW RELEASE

Back in 1995, a young singer from Portland, Jamaica started turning heads. Her name was Rochel’le, and she was cutting songs with Ocho Rios producer Barry O’Hare for his Xrated Record Intl label. It wasn’t a massive spotlight yet, but the buzz was there.

Over the years, Rochel’le stayed busy behind the scenes. She sang backing vocals for plenty of well-known artists, both in the studio and on tour. Music runs deep in her family too. Her father Anthony and her uncle Devon were part of the legendary Burning Spear band, so she grew up surrounded by serious roots energy. These days, she’s known as Rochelle Bradshaw.

Fast forward nearly 30 years. Rochelle is now based in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where she performs with her band Hypnotion. In August 2025, nearly three decades after her first recordings, she finally released her debut album Island Girl. It was recorded between Portland, Jamaica at Axx Recording Studio and Fayetteville’s Crisp Recording Studio. Family plays a big role here as well, with Devon Bradshaw handling co-writing and production duties, and her sister Tamara Bradshaw joining in as a co-writer and vocalist. The 12-track set landed well with listeners and critics alike.

But one track kept pulling people back, especially its dub version. That reaction sparked Island Girl (The Alt Cuts), released four months later. This 8-track companion dives into dub mixes, alternate takes, and even a stripped-back acappella.
