Hurricane Melissa caused heavy damage across western Jamaica, and thousands of residents continue to need help. International stars from music, sports, and entertainment have joined relief efforts with donations, supplies, and fundraising events.
The Weeknd
The Weeknd supported the World Food Programme by donating US$350,000 from his XO Humanitarian Fund. The donation is helping the agency provide food support to around 200,000 affected Jamaicans.
Sean Paul
Sean Paul pledged to match public donations up to US$50,000 through a partnership between the Sean Paul Foundation and Food For The Poor Jamaica. His efforts aim to support food access and basic supplies for families in hard-hit parishes.
Shaggy
Shaggy used private flights to deliver food, water, medical items, and essential supplies to communities in Saint Elizabeth. His Shaggy Make a Difference Foundation also joined fundraising efforts to support long-term recovery needs.
Drake
Drake worked with Jamaican partners through his brand October’s Very Own to release a limited-edition hoodie, with part of the proceeds going to the Rockhouse Foundation Hurricane Melissa Relief Fund. Fans online shared messages such as “This helps families who need rebuilding support.”
Rihanna
Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation created a Rebuild & Reimagine Fund to help Jamaica and other nearby islands recover. The fund supports clean water access, health services, and school reconstruction in the areas struck by the storm.
Winnie Harlow
Winnie Harlow teamed up with DJ Diplo to deliver food and water by boat to communities in Saint Elizabeth. The model helped bring supplies to areas that were difficult to reach due to blocked roads and heavy flooding.
Vybz Kartel
The Adidja Palmer Foundation delivered a 40-foot container of water, food, and other essential supplies to western Jamaica. The foundation also supported hot meal distribution with the help of regional food partners.
Buju Banton
Buju Banton helped organize a plane loaded with relief supplies for residents in damaged parishes. Items included food packs, clothes, and construction materials needed for clearing and repair work.
Spice
Spice supported western parishes with truckloads of building materials, clothing, and care packages. Her Grace Hamilton Foundation helped clear debris and deliver items to shelters and community centers.
Maxi Priest
Maxi Priest supported Jamaica by shipping supplies from the United Kingdom and promoting fundraising events. His outreach helped raise money for building repairs and household support.
Kes the Band and Other Artists
Kes the Band joined Shaggy, Sean Paul, Chronic Law, Tessanne Chin, Ky-Mani Marley, and others in the upcoming “Jamaica Strong” benefit concert in New York on December 12. All proceeds from the event will support rebuilding efforts and community assistance programs.
