The Mystic World of Augustus Pablo-Crucial Cuts – CD release.
The Shanachie release The Mystic World of Augustus Pablo: Crucial Cuts gathers twelve key tracks that show what made him so special. Pulled from the acclaimed Shanachie compilation The Mystic World of Augustus Pablo: The Rockers Story You’ll, find cornerstones like King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown and East of the River Nile, but also lesser-known treasures such as Paul Blackman’s Earth, Wind & Fire, Think Twice by Delroy Williams and Earl Sixteen’s Changing World. Together, they draw a full picture of Pablo’s world—half musician, half visionary.
He had a gift for spotting talent too, working with Jacob Miller, Hugh Mundell, Norris Reid, Dillinger, Junior Delgado, and many others. His sound was simple but powerful: warm bass, echoing drums, and that floating melodica on top. A gifted multi-instrumentalist, he didn’t just play on his own sessions—Pablo also lent his touch to countless classic roots recordings for other artists.
Pablo didn’t chase fame. He toured only a few times, stayed quiet, and let the records speak. When he passed in 1999, the reggae community lost one of its most original voices. Crucial Cuts brings his music back into focus, reminding us just how much heart and honesty he poured into every tune.
