STUDIO ONE UNVEILS A TREASURE TROVE OF REISSUES
Billed as “From rare gems to foundation classics!”, Studio One is set to re-release ten iconic tracks across five 7″ vinyl singles, each a slice of reggae history. Among the highlights is the almost impossible to find double A-side single: Winston Matthews’ rendition of Bob Marley’s Sun Is Shining, backed with The Pressure Is On by The Inn Keepers. Originally issued in 1971 in the UK on the Banana label, the release was miscredited as The Inn Keepers’ Me Friend, though the actual track was The Pressure Is On by The Purplelites.
Also making a comeback is Sound Dimension’s 1969 funky reggae interpretation of Sly & The Family Stone’s Sing A Simple Song, paired with Marlene Webber’s How Nice It Is, both later featured on the More Soul LP. Collectors will rejoice at the long-awaited reissue of the rare and pricey Not For A Moment by Bop & The Beltones, with Jackie Mittoo’s instrumental gem Man Pon Spot on the flip, first released in 1968.
That same year saw the release of two more classics now returning to wax: The Hamlins’ heartfelt Tell Me That You Love Me and Nora Dean’s spirited Mojo Girl. Rounding out the reissue collection is a deep dive into roots reggae with Larry Marshall’s 1972 Run Babylon, which is accompanied by its dub version.
