BLV, a short film directed by rising Jamaican filmmaker JP Williams, has earned an official selection at the 2024 FilmGood Festival in Los Angeles. This prestigious event, known for spotlighting underrepresented voices in independent cinema, will screen BLV as part of its Official Shorts Program on December 13th, 2024 at the WalkGood Yard.
A Story Rooted in Passion and Perseverance
BLV tells the inspiring story of Stanley Wallice, a young Jamaican boy with a dream of becoming a filmmaker. Despite facing opposition from his father, who dismisses filmmaking as impractical, Stanley finds strength in his grandmother’s encouraging words about self-belief. Determined to prove his passion has purpose, Stanley shares his vision on Career Day, embodying the universal struggle to follow one’s dreams.
Director JP Williams reflects, “This film is deeply personal, resonating with my own experience of pursuing art within a traditional family structure. Shooting in Jamaica added an authentic layer to the story. I’m grateful for the opportunity to tell a narrative that I hope inspires others.”
