Raphi hails Reggae Sumfest 2024 as Great
Raphi, a Montego Bay-based reggae singjay, feels that despite any hiccups, Reggae Sumfest 2024 was great.
The six-night festival, which captured the essence of reggae music, was held at Catherine Hall Complex, MoBay from July 14th to 20th. It featured some paramount local acts and international stars, including multi-Grammy winner Lauryn Hill and YG Marley, the grandson of Bob Marley.
This was Raphi’s second time on the Reggae Sumfest stage, the first in 2023.
“Sumfest was great because everyone enjoyed themselves. It was another festival that attracted thousands of tourists who were spending well-needed dollars.”
“Looking back at 2023, I got 10 minutes to deliver my set which comprises three songs: ‘Life’, ‘Thousand Miles’, and ‘Seek’. These songs have been getting a lot of airplay, very catchy, and positive to the mind.”
“I believe the promoters saw my potential and gave me a second round.”
“For Sumfest 2024, I stepped out militant wearing a green suit, enhanced by a pair of Clarks and shades.
“I made my entrance at about 11 o’clock, backed by the Warrior Love Band,” he shares.
His first entry ‘Strength and King’ represented the people of the world.
“The reception was good. Then I hit my fans with ‘Please Mi’, a song for the ladies. This was released in 2020 on Rocktop Records label. The final song was ‘Life’.”
“Life is about making the right choices”, he adds.
Raphi is working on a new single titled ‘Summer Vibes’. “The song is about ladies coming from far to enjoy the warm sunshine and clothed beaches, sumptuous foods, and irresistible music.”
Born Raphiel Chambers in Pitfour, Montego Bay, Raphi was taught at home and became a member of the Nyabinghi tribe.
