Prolific reggae singer Mackie Conscious is again preparing for Marcus Garvey Tribute, an IRIE FM production to be held inside the Courtyard of IRIE FM and Coconut Grove Great House on Sunday, August 18, 2024.

This will be held under the theme: Social Justice and Civil Rights; we have a voice that makes us a part of the decision-making process.

Featured speakers will include Bert Samuels, Minister David Muhammed, and Councillor Eugene Jelly.

Performances will come from Cherry Natural, Charmaine Ital, The Accompong Maroons, Black Music from Mutabaruka, Anthony Cruz, Royal Flames, and others

Marcus Garvey, a National Hero of Jamaica, rose to fame through his teachings which include self-confidence, self-reliance, self-empowerment, equality for blacks and the need for unity which he believes will bring upliftment and prosperity for blacks throughout the world.

Garvey was born August 17, 1887, and died June 10, 1940.

According to Mackie Conscious, “Marcus Garvey Tribute is an annual show that I look forward to every August, the month Garvey was born.”

“The words of Marcus Garvey have been known for decades. These remain as they were, well over a hundred years ago. And, every single day hundreds continue to repeat the same old message. This is good, but how can we improve on what Marcus Garvey had preached, left in literature, or plain memories.”

“Instead of using Marcus Garvey’s words in my songs, I used the message to expand his language. Every time I write a great song, I use the concept of Marcus Garvey’s teachings, so I create my own unique style which can be more accepted by this generation.”

“For example ‘Brighter Day’, a collaboration with Luciano is giving hope to the hopeless, including those trapped by poverty, injustices, and discrimination.”

“In preparing for Marcus Garvey Tribute, I will be doing songs Garvey would have endorsed if he was alive. One such song is ‘Can’t Be A Friend If Yu Nuh Loyal’. The message is a gateway to honesty, truth, and lasting friendship.”

Mackie Conscious, who is from the tourist capital of Montego Bay, is working on releasing his third album.
