Irie Vibes Roots Festival announces line-up
On Friday the 26th and Saturday the 27th of July, Irie Vibes Roots Festival will bring the irie vibes to Kortemark, Belgium, again. For this 21st edition we are presenting a nice mix of local and international artists, where, in addition to live performances, there is of course plenty of room for the soundsystem culture so typical of reggae.
On Friday, camping guests can stretch their legs a bit with the Irie Vibes All Stars. This one-time home-grown collective consists of members of Satta Sound, Youth Warrior, I-Shence Family, Pierre le Roi and Jahmani Sound. And warming up your legs will certainly be necessary, because later on the Spanish Jah Life International will be performing next to the Belgian soundsystem legend Jahmbassador Hi-Fi until late at night. Missing Link and Marijah are the MCs on duty. Not fond of reggae? Then you can go to BETO INVITES Saimn-I, Zwoeleboel & Ubuntu.
On Saturday we move up a gear. Next to the Brussels Reservoir Dub, we’re having a party for the 25th anniversary of Ionyouth Soundsystem, one of the established names in the Belgian Dub scene. All the way from Jamaica, none other than The Mighty Jah Observer comes to play the best tunes for you. After the live concerts, Dutch dub pioneers King Shiloh Sound System will close the festival.
On the Live Stage we start with two Belgian bands that certainly already made their mark. Freddy Loco’s Walloon Ska Band has worked with, among others, the legendary Skatalites in the past. Wahwahsda, who once won the Benelux Reggae Contest, are bringing us a contemporary mix of English reggae and Dutch rap. Then we go crescendo with the Goldmaster Horns ft Charlie P & GT Moore, but this year’s headliner, however, is none other than Johnny Clarke, an absolute Reggae legend. He and his backing band Dub Asante Band feat. Matic Horns are guaranteed to provide red-yellow-green colored fireworks in our festival tent.
But Irie Vibes is more than just a music festival. For the little ones we provide a real children’s village, shopaholics can visit our festival market and for foodies there is a wide range of dishes from all over the world. Extra entertainment will also be provided. For example, every day you can attend a session of Kundalini yoga, you can have your portrait drawn by Tekenteam Tote and even pirates are running around on the field. Ecology, honesty, respect and tolerance are of paramount importance. But local involvement is also important to us.
To strengthen this local involvement, we organize a free concert evening on Thursday: Kortemark Congé. This evening there is a varied offering with DJs such as Kokonuts and DJ Desperado, the sound system Dukes of Skazzard and the live bands Mise*en*Scene and Camel’s Drop feat. Koko Breakfast.
Kortemark Congé will take place on Thursday, July 25th from 6:00 PM to 1:00 AM.
Irie Vibes Roots Festival on Friday, July 26th from 5:00 PM to 4:00 AM and on Saturday, July 27th from 12:00 PM to 4:00 AM.
Our campsite is open from Thursday 2:00 PM to Sunday 11:00 AM.
Location: Koekelarestraat, Kortemark, Belgium.
