REISSUE

The reissued LP, Meditation in Dub, from the Flames label in New York City showcases the work of the renowned session band, The Revolutionaries. Recorded at the iconic Channel One studio in Kingston in the mid-1970s under the guidance of Ossie Hibbert, a respected session musician and producer, this album features some of reggae music’s finest riddim tracks. Ossie’s move to the studio on Maxfield Avenue in early 1975 and his involvement there further solidified his role in the reggae music scene, as he played a key part in selecting artists and shaping the sound of The Revolutionaries.

Around this time, Hibbert recorded tracks for Winston Jones, the original singer and composer of Stop That Train, which was later popularized by Keith & Tex. Jones had moved from Jamaica to New York City in the 1970s and started the Flames label. This label became a significant part of Brooklyn’s reggae scene from the mid-1970s to the early 1990s. Jones often collaborated with Channel One, Hibbert, and The Revolutionaries to record riddim tracks for his productions.

The Meditation In Dub LP consists of dub versions of many of the early Flames label’s 7″ singles, produced by Jones in the mid to late 1970s. These dub versions include interpretations of popular riddims from that era.
