Jahvante’s ‘Cry Peace’ gets love in Africa
‘Cry Peace’, a timely song by Kingston-based reggae artiste Jahvante Campbell, is gathering strength in Gambia, Kenya, and Zimbabwe. The track dubbed a timely composition is also getting a lot of love in the US, Canada, and the Caribbean.
War has been on the rise since about 2012, after a decline in the 1990s and early 2000s. First came conflicts in Libya, Syria, and Yemen, triggered by the 2011 Arab uprising. Libya’s instability spilled south helping to set off a protracted crisis in the Sahel region.
And, there seems to be no end to conflicts. Around the world, more people are dying in fighting, being forced from their homes, or in need of life-saving aid than in decades.
According to Jahvante, “The idea for the song came from Thug Chemist a record producer who came to the fore in the 1990’s. He (Thug Chemist) called to say he had this riddim which he wanted me to explore with a song he had written.”
“I pondered and accepted because I had nothing to lose. The lyrics were great and who in this world would not be crying out for peace.”
Also, occupying this project are reggae singer Junior Byles and Passion, daughter of the late Sugar Minott.
“I recorded the song at Anchor Recording Studio. It was released in early 2021 along with a music video,” Jahvante shares.
Jahvante is looking to extend his presence on the Fully Bright school tour which has visited close to fifty schools.
“I will bring a lot of energy to these students and teachers. They need our support, not only during Child Month in May but every single day of their lives.”
In addition to ‘Cry Peace’, Jahvante has released ‘Hot Pon Them And Those’, ‘Slow Down’ (Thug Chemist), and ‘Mama I Love You’ (DJ Wayne).
