As Heart NSTA continues to prepare its students for the future, the 2024 WorldSkills Competition in Lyon, France, marks a significant milestone. According to Dwayne Bent, Director of Institutional Infrastructure Development, Team Jamaica is ready to show the world that they have what is required to compete at an international level, and is encouraging Jamaicans at home and in the diaspora to show their support.
Since its inception in 1982, the Heart NSTA Trust has worked diligently to bridge skills and competency gaps, as well as provide students with extensive real-world experience alongside theoretical classroom learning. This immersive approach ensures, as best as possible, students are prepared to enter the workforce. It’s this hands-on experience that distinguishes the institution, making their graduates some of the most well-rounded candidates in the industry.
Jamaica shines on the international stage
Another exciting aspect of Heart NSTA’s programmes is the opportunity for students to compete internationally, gaining invaluable global exposure. Last year, Heart NSTA students showcased their skills at the International Opto-electronics Skills Competition in Shanghai, China.
Competing against top contenders from around the world, Jamaica secured an impressive second place, with Dravid Dixon earning recognition for his outstanding performance. Facing off against countries like China, Japan, Korea, Brazil, and Austria was no small feat, and it truly put Heart NSTA on the map.
